Meet your teacher....My name is Stephany Reif. I am the mother of two of the most beautiful girls (and one furry daughter) and the wife of a math teacher/football coach. I love to bake and have "slight" obsession with all things Harry Potter.
I grew up in Dundee, a small town on Seneca Lake. There is one street light, no fast food and there are more cows than people. After graduating from high school, I attended SUNY Cortland where I majored in Secondary Social Studies and History. I went on to get my master's degree in Geography following my undergrad. I started teaching in Homer in October of 2006 as a long-term sub and was hired full time at the end of the 2006-2007 school year. I have taught Global 9 & 10 and an elective called Great Issues in Society. One of my biggest goals for my students is not to remember all the names and dates that come along with the history curriculum but to gain a better understand of the cultures around the world and appreciate our difference. I think as a society we emphasize the negative far more than we should and teach our children to appreciate the "normal" rather than the different. I don't believe that there is such a thing as "normal." I hope that when students leave my room they have the higher level thinking skills necessary to make their own decisions and appreciate the world around them. |
